I may still be new to the world of photographing weddings, but I actually have some wedding video experience. To be honest, those jobs fell into my lap. I had been making my own personal youtube videos and I had started making videos for work. One of my friends asked if I wanted to help him video a wedding. I jumped at the opportunity and away I went.
He walked me through the entire process of what to capture, when to move, where to stand, the whole nine yards. We practiced the day before the wedding at the venue (it was a church) and that was it. The day of the wedding was perfect. We arrived early, I did as I was instructed, and everything went smoothly. Because I was only there to film the wedding, I didn’t have to edit it after.
Soon after that, the same friend asked if I could film another wedding and then another. I then was asked my my cousin to film their wedding, and then another cousin asked me to film their wedding. Each time taking the skills I learned from the first wedding and using my experience to learn and grow for the following wedding. I now have 5 weddings under my belt within a year’s time. I’ve edited 3 of those 5 and plan to edit portfolio pieces of at least one of the first ones.
Never stop working on your dreams. People notice and if you continue to grow, there’s no telling where it might take you. If you or someone you know needs video work please let me know, I’d love to help tell their story.
